Arizona CDL Ticket Lawyer

Commercial Driver License (CDL) holder traffic tickets can have devastating impacts for commercial drivers. Any traffic infraction can cause a driver to have points assessed to the driver’s license, which will almost certainly impact their carrier’s insurance rates and that driver’s individual driver scores.

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration has a system known as Compliance, Safety, Accountability (CSA) for measuring scores that assess a driver’s fitness for being a commercial driver. Different traffic infractions can carry different penalties in terms of points and CSA scores.

In fact, in Arizona, many violations by commercial drivers are considered to be class 1 misdemeanors, the equivalent misdemeanor of a major crime such as DUI. This means that Commercial Drivers charged with traffic infractions in Arizona may face penalties of up to 6 months in jail, fines and fees of $2,500, points assessed to driver’s license and points assessed to CSA scores. Many traffic infractions in Arizona cannot be removed.

It is also important to note that Commercial Driver License holders are not eligible for Defensive Driving School under Arizona law. That means in many cases, they have no choice but to either simply pay their ticket or hire a lawyer to defend them in court.
